The Bill’s – Crossbasket Castle Hotel

It was an absolute pleasure for Marty the DJ to be part of Christine and Matt’s stunning wedding celebration at the beautiful Crossbasket Castle Hotel in Blantyre, Scotland. This incredible venue, with its grand interiors and elegant surroundings, provided the perfect backdrop for a day full of love, laughter, and amazing music.

From my very first chat with Christine and Matt, I knew this was going to be a memorable one. They had a clear vision for their big day and wanted their music to reflect not just their personalities, but also the diverse backgrounds of their guests. One of their key requests was to include Afrobeats music during the evening reception — something a little different from the traditional Scottish wedding playlists!

With the help of Christine, Matt, and Christine’s brother, we put together a fantastic list of Afrobeats tracks that would get everyone on the dance floor. Because this was a genre I wasn’t overly familiar with, I spent some time researching Afrobeats — learning about the artists, the rhythm, and the energy that makes this music so infectious. From Burna Boy to Wizkid, and from Tiwa Savage to Davido, I discovered a whole new world of sound that quickly became one of my favourite parts of the evening.

When the big night arrived, the energy in the room was electric. After the first dance and a few classic wedding favourites, I began to mix in the Afrobeats tracks alongside some of Christine and Matt’s other requests. The response from the crowd was incredible — everyone was up dancing, smiling, and enjoying the mix of cultures and styles. It’s always special when the music truly brings people together, and that’s exactly what happened here.

As a DJ, I’m constantly learning and evolving, and this wedding gave me a wonderful opportunity to explore a genre I hadn’t worked with before. It reminded me why I love doing what I do — every couple has their own story, their own style, and their own soundtrack. Being part of that is a real privilege.

Christine and Matt’s wedding was not only a celebration of love, but also a celebration of diversity, creativity, and joy. I left Crossbasket Castle that night inspired and excited to keep discovering new music to share with future couples.
