From the moment I received their music requests in the lead up to the big day, I knew this was going to be something special. The evening kicked off in style with Elvis Presley’s Burning Love for the cake cutting, a bold, fun choice that set the tone perfectly. Then came one of my favourite moments of the night — Abbey and Mark’s first dance to Joesef’s beautiful Thinking of You. Intimate, heartfelt, and very them.
A Playlist Like No Other
What made this wedding truly stand out was the sheer variety of music Abbey and Mark brought to the table, and how perfectly it all flowed together. We’re talking five decades of pure gold.
The 70s and 80s were well represented, with disco classics like ABBA’s Dancing Queen, Candi Staton’s Young Hearts Run Free, and Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody getting the floor moving early. The 80s new wave and pop fans were catered for too — Erasure, Simple Minds, Tears For Fears, New Order, and The Cure all made an appearance, giving the night a wonderfully nostalgic edge.
The 90s brought some real crowd-pleasing anthems, Pulp’s Common People, Oasis, Shania Twain, and Céline Dion all featured, covering everything from Britpop to power pop. And the 00s indie rock lovers were absolutely in their element, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, The Kooks, The Fratellis, and a healthy dose of The Killers kept the energy sky high.
There was even a brilliant pop punk section — Blink-182, Bowling For Soup, Good Charlotte, and Jimmy Eat World, that had guests absolutely losing it on the dance floor. Then we shifted into some cheeky 00s party bangers with Pitbull, Flo Rida, Sean Paul, and Shakira, before finishing the night with a proper Scottish flourish, Skerryvore, The Waterboys, Levi Heron’s The Glen and Runrig’s Loch Lomond, rounding things off in style.
The Dance Floor Said It All
Abbey and Mark’s guests were on that dance floor all night long. Not a single empty spot. That’s the sign of a truly great wedding — when the music is so perfectly tailored to the people in the room that nobody wants the night to end. No generic playlist, no filler — just track after track that meant something.
