Mr and Mrs Bourton, Boswell Estate, Auchinleck, Ayrshire.

I have to say, driving through the Ayrshire countryside to Boswell Estate in Auchinleck is one of those moments that reminds you just how lucky you are to do this job. Nestled amongst rolling green hills with that incredible historic charm, Boswell Estate is the kind of stunning country venue that takes your breath away before the night has even begun. I was absolutely thrilled to be Rachel and Sam’s DJ for their wedding day and what a day it was!

Before I took to the decks, the incredibly talented Liley performed Rachel and Sam’s first dance live. I was watching from the side and honestly, it was a beautiful moment — the whole room was captivated. Liley, you were brilliant. Once she wrapped up, it was my turn to get the party going!

HOW MY NIGHT UNFOLDED

Once I got set up and the dancefloor was ready, I kicked things off with some classic disco to ease everyone in. Dancing Queen did exactly what it always does, got a few brave souls up early and put smiles on everyone’s faces. From there I took the crowd on a journey through the 70s and 80s, Candi Staton, Earth Wind & Fire, the Jacksons, and I could feel the energy building with every track. Rick Astley, Erasure, and Phil Collins kept the room buzzing beautifully.

Mid-evening I took a turn into pop-punk and indie territory, and I genuinely wasn’t sure how it would land at first! But Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, and the Fratellis absolutely smashed it. Seeing grandparents and twenty-somethings all bouncing along to All The Small Things together? That’s what weddings are all about.

The dancefloor never really let up. Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Murder On The Dancefloor, RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband!” (I always love dropping that one at weddings!), and Billie Jean had the room completely electric. And of course, Mr Brightside, I’ve never once played that track at a wedding without the whole room going absolutely wild, and Rachel and Sam’s guests were no different!

As we headed towards the end of the night, I knew exactly what this Ayrshire crowd needed. Gerry Cinnamon’s She Is A Belter, Yes Sir I Can Boogie, the Proclaimers, Runrig’s Loch Lomond, and Come On Eileen, the roof nearly came off Boswell Estate! I absolutely love finishing a Scottish wedding with those anthems. There’s nothing quite like it.

Rachel and Sam, it was an absolute honour to be your DJ on your wedding day. From the stunning Ayrshire countryside setting, to Liley’s beautiful first dance performance, to a dancefloor that never emptied all night, it was one of those evenings I’ll remember for a long time. I wish you both a lifetime of love and happiness. Now go enjoy that honeymoon!
