There’s something special about a wedding right on the banks of Loch Lomond, and Louise and Michael’s day at the Lodge was no exception.
Setting the tone
We then eased into the evening with a real mix, a bit of ABBA, some Whitney, Shania Twain, all the crowd-pleasers you’d expect at a wedding with guests of every age on the floor. It’s always my favourite part of the night.
Louise and Michael picked a beautiful first dance, the classic Richard Marx and Right Here Waiting.
The trance takeover
But if you know Louise and Michael, you’ll know this wasn’t going to be a standard wedding set the whole night through. These two are proper early 2000s trance fans, and when I dropped into that run, Tiësto’s Adagio For Strings, Paul van Dyk’s For An Angel, System F’s Out Of The Blue, Faithless’ Insomnia – These were some of Louise’s favourite tunes. There’s a different kind of energy that comes with those tracks. Getting to play a set like that for a couple who genuinely love the music, rather than just going through the motions of a “wedding playlist,” is one of the best parts of this job. This is probably the first time I have played these trance records at at wedding, they were the big tunes when I started djing around the millennium.
Keeping the party going
From there it was back into the big singalong moments — Sweet Caroline, Don’t Stop Me Now, Mr Brightside, It’s Raining Men — the songs that never fail, whoever’s in the room. We rounded the night off in style.
A nod to home
Given we were sat right on the loch itself Mr and Mrs Dacre picked Loch Lomond as their second last song as they had planned in a special record to end the evening, Take That and Greatest Day.
Huge congratulations to the newly married Mr and Mrs Decare, thank you for having me play such a personal, trance set for your big day. Lodge on Loch Lomond really is a stunning venue, and I loved every minute of it.
