Some wedding parties are all about the music, and Mr and Mrs Woods’ celebration at House for an Art Lover in Glasgow had a playlist packed with feel-good classics, indie anthems, disco favourites and the kind of songs that bring everyone together on the dancefloor.
From timeless love songs and 80s dancefloor fillers to 90s nostalgia, indie rock and a proper Scottish singalong, the music brought together different generations and musical tastes for a wedding party with something for everyone.
As a Glasgow wedding DJ, one of the best parts of my job is creating an atmosphere where guests can enjoy the music, let their hair down and celebrate the happy couple. This playlist had all the ingredients for a brilliant night.
House for an Art Lover: A Unique Glasgow Wedding Venue
House for an Art Lover is one of Glasgow’s distinctive wedding venues, offering a setting that feels a little different from the traditional hotel wedding. Its artistic character makes it a memorable location for couples celebrating their special day.
With a wedding venue like this, the music plays an important role in bringing the evening together. The right mix of songs helps create a relaxed atmosphere before building the energy and encouraging everyone onto the dancefloor.
For Mr and Mrs Woods, the music spanned several decades, with plenty of familiar favourites alongside indie and rock tracks that always go down well at a Scottish wedding.
Getting the Party Started with Disco Classics
You can never underestimate the power of a great disco record at a wedding.
ABBA’s Dancing Queen, Candi Staton’s Young Hearts Run Free and the Jacksons’ Blame It on the Boogie are timeless dancefloor favourites. Add Earth, Wind & Fire’s September and Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and you have a collection of songs that are almost impossible to resist.
These tracks work so well because they appeal to guests of different ages. Whether people are dancing with friends, joining family members on the floor or simply singing along from the sidelines, the music creates a shared experience.
And, of course, no wedding disco would be complete without a few big feel-good moments. Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars brought even more modern party energy to the selection.
80s and 90s Nostalgia
There is something special about hearing a song that instantly takes you back to a particular time in your life.
The Woods’ playlist included plenty of nostalgic favourites, from Erasure’s A Little Respect and Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody to Shania Twain’s Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, Cher’s Believe and Robin S’s Show Me Love.
The 90s also featured heavily, with the Spice Girls’ Wannabe, B*Witched’s C’est La Vie, Steps’ Tragedy and Backstreet Boys’ Everybody adding a dose of pure pop nostalgia.
These are the records that can turn a group of wedding guests into one big singalong. They are familiar, fun and full of memories, making them perfect additions to a wedding playlist.
Indie Anthems and Rock Classics
Alongside the disco and pop favourites, the playlist had a strong indie and rock influence.
Arctic Monkeys’ I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor and Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out brought an alternative edge, while The Killers’ Mr Brightside provided one of those unmistakable indie singalong moments.
The rock selection also included Kings of Leon’s Sex on Fire, Stereophonics’ Dakota, Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer and Bryan Adams’ Summer of ’69.
These songs are a brilliant reminder that a wedding disco does not have to stick to one genre. Moving between disco, pop, indie and rock keeps the evening varied and gives different groups of guests their moment on the dancefloor.
Whether it is a classic guitar riff, a huge chorus or a song everyone knows word for word, the right track at the right time can make all the difference.
Scottish Singalongs to Bring Everyone Together
No Glasgow wedding playlist would feel quite complete without a few Scottish favourites.
Deacon Blue’s Dignity, The Waterboys’ The Whole of the Moon and The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) all featured in the Woods’ music selection.
These songs have a special place in Scottish celebrations. They are more than just tracks to dance to; they are opportunities for everyone to join in, raise their voices and share the moment.
The playlist also included Runrig’s Loch Lomond, a powerful choice for bringing a wedding party together towards the end of the evening.
There is a reason these songs remain so popular at Scottish weddings. When the music connects with the crowd, the atmosphere can become something truly memorable.
A Wedding Playlist with Something for Everyone
One of the things I love about DJing weddings is that no two couples have exactly the same musical tastes.
Mr and Mrs Woods’ playlist moved from romantic music such as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Into My Arms as their first dance to classic disco, pop throwbacks, indie favourites, rock anthems and upbeat party tracks.
There was also room for a few unexpected choices, including Latin party favourites such as Shakira’s Waka Waka and Gente de Zona’s La Gozadera a big request on the night, alongside country-leaning tracks like Darius Rucker’s Wagon Wheel.
That variety is what makes building a wedding playlist so enjoyable. The aim is not simply to play a succession of popular songs, but to bring together music that reflects the couple and gives their guests plenty of reasons to get involved.
As a wedding DJ, I always believe the best approach is to understand the couple’s preferences, balance those choices with the atmosphere of the room and keep the music flowing throughout the evening.
Planning Your Wedding at House for an Art Lover?
If you are planning a wedding at House for an Art Lover or another Glasgow wedding venue, the music deserves just as much thought as the other details of your day.
Your wedding soundtrack should reflect you as a couple. That might mean indie anthems, classic disco, 90s pop, rock favourites, Scottish singalongs or a little bit of everything.
With the right music, your evening reception can become a celebration that brings your family and friends together, creates lasting memories and keeps the dancefloor alive.
If you are looking for a wedding DJ in Glasgow who understands the importance of personal music choices and a great party atmosphere, I would love to hear about your plans.
